A LITTLE ABOUT ALCUDIA

In Alcudia you can find everything that you might want from your holiday; a long stretched beach with white sand and clear water, a cosy old town, large pedestrian areas where everybody meets in the evening, warm nice people, a blue sea and a clear sun that never seems to go away. There are restaurants, shops, history, local life and traditions and a beautiful nature. In Alcudia you can find cosy small hotels and large family resorts mixed with luxurious yachts and villas.

Alcudia can actually be divided into four different parts. The old town is located 1.5 km from the beach, inside the old city walls. Surrounding the old town is Alcudia Town, where most locals live. Puerto de Alcudia is the harbour and the beach on the east side of the port. As the long beach stretches on, it changes name to Playa de Muro. Most hotels are found in Puerto de Alcudia and in Playa de Muro.

OLD TOWN ALCUDIA (ALCUDIA TOWN)

Alcudia, or as it originally was called Pollentia, is a historical centre of Mallorca. The city was founded 123 BC and was important city during the Roman ruling times. It is a unique experience to visit the old town. Inside the city walls there is a labyrinth of narrow streets and small squares. More beautiful city is hard to find. Cosy cafés, restaurants and boutiques are making your visit unforgettable. Tuesdays and Sundays are market days. PUERTO DE ALCUDIA (PORT D'ALCUDIA)

Modern, but still very cosy harbour area is framed with the saling boats and old fishing boats next to each other. The sea front is the natural meeting point in the evening. On the marina square and on the pedestrian streets surrounding it, the cafés, restaurants and pubs are filled with people enjoying the warm evening and the nice atmosphere.

From Puerto de Alcudia stretches one of the most amazing beaches in the Mediterranean. It starts in Alcudia and runs all the way to Can Picafort. The eastern part of the beach is called Playa de Muro.

PLAYA DE MURO

The beach is so long and wide that it is not difficult to find a quiet corner as well as active beach life. The waters are shallow and the sand pure white. Along the beach is the beach promenade, which leads you all the way to the harbour of Alcudia. A stone throw away from the beach is the main road which is full of shops, restaurants, bars and pubs.

ALCUDIA AND CHILDREN

Alcudia is an excellent holiday destination for families with children. The beach is shallow and calm and the soft white sand is ideal for building sand cakes and castles. There is a large pedestrian area in Puerto de Alcudia and the beach promenade stretches all the way to Playa de Muro. Spanish people love children and restaurants are used to have children customers. Most of the restaurants have even high chairs for babies. You can easily find baby food and diapers in the supermarkets. The beach is full of children activities from playgrounds to mini Tivoli’s.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO ALCUDIA

From the airport to Alcudia

From the airport there is only one exit out and takes you onto the road for Palma, keep on this road until you see the sign for ANDRAIXT and PORT D’ALCUDIA. Get in the right hand lane to get on to the motorway (MA 20).

You will pass the Coca-Cola factory and local brewery; further along you will see another sign for PORT D’ALCUDIA & INCA. Again get into the right hand lane to take the motorway (MA 13), following the signs for PORT D’ALCUDIA until you reach the end of the motorway. The road then becomes an A road.

Keep on this following the signs for ALCUDIA, PORT D’ ALCUDIA, POLLENÇA and PORT D’ POLLENÇA, at the first roundabout, it is signposted left to POLLENÇA, carry straight on following the signs for ALCUDIA and PORT D’ALCUDIA.

At the second roundabout it is signposted Port D’Alcudia, Arta, Port Comercial, Hermita d Victoria, take the exit to the left sign posted ALCUDIA and PORT D’ POLLENÇA, keep on this road following the signs for PORT D’ALCUDIA, at the next junction to the left it is signposted Port D’ Pollença carry straight on signposted PORT D’ALCUDIA & CENTRO follow the road round and you will come to the Medieval walls you have now reached the town of ALCUDIA.
